'Gardening
Problems' is a collective term
used here to indicate the different problems associated with gardening. Like any
other enterprise, establishing and maintaining a garden will have you face
hurdles and difficulties along the way. As far as gardening
problems are concerned, these difficulties are mainly
the pests and weeds. There are also the problems of drying leaves, bent plant
growth etc. However, most of these can be countered by following
good gardening
practices such as regular watering, proper choosing of
plants and others that are repeatedly emphasized
throughout this website. So, as such, the main gardening
problems are those caused by weeds and pests.
The best practice that can be followed
to protect your garden against weeds and pests is
prevention. Make regular checks for weeds and pests. Check the plant regularly
for signs of distress. Shriveled leaves, yellowing and curling leaf-tips and
falling leaves are strong indications. If you find anything amiss, immediate
action is advocated. Both weeds and pests tend to multiply rapidly, if allowed
to.
For
weeding, using a sharp hoe is the best possible cure. Plucking out the weeds
by hand is also effective, provided you make sure you pluck them out by the
root.
For pests, it is always good to carry out a little research. Find out what pests
are biggest enemies of your plants. Regularly check for these pests and
in case you find
any on the plant, pluck out that portion of the plant with the pest, if
possible, and do away with it to keep it from spreading. Placing the plants
directly in sunlight is also an effective way of battling pests. If you are
looking towards chemical control then be sure to first find out if the plant can
take the chemicals you are covering it with. Also, it is a
good idea to keep yourself aware of the several organic alternatives
available for effective pest control.
In short, prevention should be the mantra. However, if you do find any signs of pest problems, look for simple organic solutions, failing which, you could try out chemical sprays.
