Of course, these gardening tips do not tell everything. But these tips might just serve as a guideline. So, without further ado, here are some gardening tips:

Lawns:

Remember that there are both cool season and warm season grass varieties. So make sure you ask for and choose between the two depending on your needs when you go for a grass lawn. There is also a wide variety of grass that have different characteristics. Some need a lot of watering and care while some others are tough survivors. So, choose wisely.

Plants:

If sunlight is not uniform, plants tend to bend towards sunlight which results in bent growth. So, try and keep the sunlight uniform. If not, make sure you atleast turn the plant by 45 degrees every week or so. This will help in straightening the plants.

Temperature:

The first indication of your plants getting too cold is the dying out and withering of leaves on the outside. If this happens, try relocating or using reflective materials etc for more warmth. In conditions of high temperature, use more diluted compost. Dry compost can burn out the roots. If you think your plants are losing leaves very rapidly, you are doing something wrong. Most of the times, the problem is with the temperature, high or low.

Watering:

Water plants regularly. Especially the potted ones and even more so when you have just added compost. If the compost dries, chances are that it will burn the plant. Do not use too much water or too little. The plants will invariably wilt. In case you have watered a potted plant too much, take steps immediately. Remove the whole soil mound along with the plant and hold an absorbent towel around the soil. Then leave it to dry for a while and then put the whole plant-soil system into another clean-dry pot. If you have a large plant in a small pot, you will have to water it more. More the compost, more frequently should you water the plant. Clay pots tend to allow more evaporation of moisture and hence need more watering than their plastic cousins.

Humidity:

A little misting of the leaves with fresh, clean water is good, especially in warm, dry conditions. But don't do it on the flowers. This is mainly for indoor plants Outdoor plants should not be misted. If the leaves are thin and feel papery, it indicates a need for more humidity and moisture.

Grooming and care:

Flowers look good on a plant. But fading flowers don't. They also encourage diseases. So, regularly pluck out any fading flowers with the stalk. On indoor plants, it is a good practice to clean the leaves regularly with a soft cloth to remove the settled dust. To encourage an all-round look, tips of young plants can be cut so that the side shoots grow.
